Letting old walls breathe
Lime plaster & mortars
Cement traps moisture in historic walls. Lime lets it out. Our pointers and lime plasterers work in hydraulic and hot lime, and in haired lime plaster laid on in up to five coats.

We rake out and repoint whole elevations, towers and chimney stacks in mortars matched to the original. Inside, we strip failing plaster, let the walls dry and replaster in lime, including insulating lime plasters where a building needs to get warmer.
At Nenthead Chapel, that meant conserving an ornate plastered ceiling. At Pleasington Priory it meant five coats of haired lime plaster to the internal walls.
What we do
- Hydraulic and hot lime repointing
- Haired lime plaster, up to five coats
- Insulating lime plasters
- Ornamental ceiling conservation
- Lime plaster panels in timber frames
- Rake-out of failed cement pointing
